It took a Brooklyn jury just one hour to convict a rapist who preyed on a 12-year-old girl.
Adam Wright, 43, acted as his own attorney as he tried to convince the jury that DNA recovered from the 2002 rape was contaminated with a DNA swab taken from him after a later arrest.
Wright dragged his victim to the roof of an apartment building Canarsie and sexually assaulted the middle-schooler several times.
The victim, now 20, broke down on the stand several times as she testified during the trial.
“I thought he was going to throw me off the roof,” she said.
Wright cross-examined her, but she was defiant throughout.
The prosecution presented testimony from another woman who said Wright raped her on a rooftop.
But in the end, Wright’s defense was torpedoed by the DNA evidence.
Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Doerfler told jurors during summation that in order to find another match for the DNA sample, one would have to test every single person on seven Planet Earths.
In short order, the jury convicted Wright of all nine charges: four counts of rape, two counts of criminal sexual act, two counts of assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Wright, who turned down a 15-year plea deal, faces up to 57 years in prison when he is sentenced two weeks hence.
