מה נאמר ומה נדבר? קראנק - What Can We Say? - Sick

[English translation]
Hot oil and beatings because they forgot to say a blessing (over food): "The parents abused us"
Memebers of an orthodox family from Bene-Beraq, that turned secular, are holding a protest in front of their parents’ home, in an attempt to “liberate” the children that remained behind and suffer according to them daily harassment. The brothers say that they were beaten because they forgot to say a blessing, or because they did not do their homework ‑ Where were the authorities? “They did not help us, we had to run away from home” (current events, Israel)
Israel Cohen  |  21 Iyar, 5772    05/13/12  16:48
An unusual demonstration was held in Bene-Braq in the afternoon hours. A secular group together with six family members who turned secular, stood on Avnei Nezer Street, opposite their parents’ home, carrying signs protesting their parents’ violence.
According to protesters, the authorities did not lift a finger towards parents’ ongoing abuse of children in the family.
The children insist that their parents abused them physically and mentally, and that because of that, they escaped from the house. The purpose of the demonstration: to save the four remaining children, that were left under their parents’ jurisdiction, and suffer constant abuse ‑ so they claim.
The family established a website and started a campaign for the release of the children that remained in the Orthodox parents’ home.
They argue that already in 2002 the Department of Social Services of the Municipality of Bene-Beraq, received complaints that the parents were abusing their children, but – according to family members claims ‑ nothing was done. When push came to shove, they ran away from home.
According to the children’s testimony, their parents were beating them with broom handles, poured hot water over them and banged their heads against the wall.
K, one of the children said: “My parents would beat us severely if we forget to say a blessing over an apple, or [did not] say the blessing ‘Asher yatzar’ upon leaving the bathroom.”
M, another brother, claims that his sister had experienced severe abuse and her father “hurled at her a pan with hot oil for not doing her Bible homework”.
Family members are marching together with their supporters, from the family home to the Knesset building, to bring the shocking story to the public agenda.
The family said: “All who want to support us are welcome to walk with us during the three days and to cry the outcry of the children who are still left at home.”
