A Monsey man illegally collected Medicaid while he worked two jobs, the Rockland County District Attorney's Office said.
Investigators arrested Eliyahu Zarifa, 46, on Friday and charged him with felony third-degree grand larceny. Prosecutors said Zarifa worked at B&H Photo Company and Top Notch Staffing, but didn't provide that information to the county's Department of Social Services.
Zarifa is accused of receiving $4,018 in Medicaid benefits he was not eligible for, according to prosecutors. He was arraigned in Spring Valley court and sent to Rockland County Jail on $10,000 bail.
He remained in the jail as of early Friday evening, according to the jail's booking desk, and has a separate, $500,000 bail associated with a charge of felony predatory sexual assault against a child. Zarifa was arrested on that charge on Aug. 31, 2011 after prosecutors filed a 90-count indictment. His next court date on the sexual assault charge is Aug. 7 in Rockland County criminal court.
Zarifa is scheduled to return to court to answer the grand larceny charge on June 6. A message was left with his attorney, Kenneth Gribetz of New City.
How much will Medicaid have to pay for his victims' treatment?
